Reigning NCAA individual champ and U.S. Amateur winner Bryson DeChambeau of Clovis announced Wednesday that he is leaving SMU, ending his days as a collegiate player. DeChambeau said his plans for now include preparing for the 2016 Masters.
With his win at the U.S. Amateur, Bryson DeChambeau joined Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ryan Moore as the only players to win the title and NCAA Championship in the same year. The last NorCal player to win the U.S. Amateur was Ricky Barnes in 2002.
NCGA Public Links champion Nick Moore only started playing golf nine years ago. Prior to winning on the golf course, the self-taught Moore was a star on the baseball field.
