Valley Christian High of San Jose won for the second time in four years, while Amador Valley’s Jaclyn LaHa took home the Individual crown at Berkeley CC.
Valley Christian shot a team score of 31-over 391 to defeat runner-up Granite Bay by 11 shots. Third place went to Palo Alto at 43-over 403. All three teams earned spots into the CIF State Girls’ High School Championship.
Leading the way for Valley Christian, who also won in 2017, were Franky Sumcad and Varnika Achanta, who both came in at 77. Other scores (best 5-out-of-6) for Valley Christian were Cynthia Zhang (78), Joyce Zhang (79), Annabelle Chen (80) and Varsha Ramachandran (84).
Granite Bay was paced by Ellie Bushnell (76) and Hannah Harrison and Lauren Pierce, who each shot 78.
LaHa, a regular on the Junior Tour of Northern California, won the Individual title in a thriller. She’d defeat Olivia Duan of Cupertino and Kara Lee of Dougherty Valley via an eagle on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff after all three players finished regulation tied at 73.
Overall, nine individuals not on an advancing team earned spots into the State Finals. The other six players advancing were Adora Liu of Irvington (76), Amy Na of Pleasant Valley (76), Michelle Woo of Mission San Jose (76), Sophie Thai of Los Altos (76), Nikki Iniakov of Stevenson (77) and Camille Thai of Los Altos (77).
