Summitpointe Men’s Club Bay View went wire-to-wire to win the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship. The SMC Bay View squad, made up of teammates Mark Reynolds, Jon Carone, Joel Tyrus and Mark Wesson, shot a final round 134 at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch to come in at 22-under 260 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
Alameda GC and Sequoyah CC finished tied for second at 263 following rounds of 133 and 135, respectively. Alameda GC earned second place following a lengthy playoff.
Both SMC Bay View and Alameda GC advanced to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for Aug. 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Things are tight after day one of the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship. The team of SMC Bay View is in the lead at 16-under 126 playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
But right on their heels is Lake Chabot GC at 127. Sequoyah CC, meanwhile, is just two shots back after an opening 128. Only three shots back is Fremont Park GC at 129. Another two teams are within five shots of the leaders.
Tuesday’s final round will see play shift over to par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch. The two low teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for Aug. 30-31 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
