Make it a dozen for Jeff Burda.
On Wednesday, Burda posted a final-round score of 2-under par 69 at Whitehawk Ranch GC to win the annual NCGA Senior Valley Amateur Championship by six strokes over co-runners-up Michael Scot Lance and Bob Johnson. The win is Burda’s 12th NCGA Senior title, extending his own record. The next closest player is Gary Vanier at 10.
“I’m very pleased. There’s some great players that we play with,” said Burda, who finished with a championship record-tying 36-hole total of 4-under 138. “When you win something like this, at this point, it’s always something nice.”
A 68-year-old part-time resident of Modesto and a former banker, Burda had to beat players as young as 55. It’s his second Senior Valley Am title. Burda, who has the distinction of winning an NCGA event in six different decades, also won the event in 2012.
“To use a football analogy, I know my golf game is in the final quarter. I just hope it’s not the final two minutes,” Burda said.
In Tuesday’s opening round at Schaffer’s Mill, Burda grabbed a share of the lead with Todd Barsotti after a first-round 3-under 69 that included five birdies to go against three bogeys. Barsotti had a final round 76 to fall into a tie for fourth place.
Johnson, who was awarded second place after a card-off, had a final round 71. Lance had a final round 73 as they both came in at 144.

Jeff Burda and Todd Barsotti grabbed a share of the lead as this week’s annual NCGA Senior Valley Amateur Championship got underway Tuesday at Schaffer’s Mill.
Burda, who won the event in 2012, and Barsotti each opened with identical rounds of 2-under 69.
Alone in third place at 1-under 70 is Michael (Scot) Lance. Defending champion Jeff Wilson is not in the field due to competing in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship.
With a victory, Burda will add to his record of 11 NCGA Senior titles. Wednesday’s final round will see play shift over to Whitehawk Ranch GC.
