Winning Ways – Celebrating our Local Champions
As we wind down this 2020 golf season, we can certainly reflect on the new landscape of golf amid this year of Coronavirus. Golf courses were closed, events were canceled, safety measures changed the way we played – but we still managed to play some tournament golf!
Let’s acknowledge some of the Tournament winners this season:
PWGA Legacy Spring Partners
A much-heralded return to golf at Lincoln Hills Golf Club on July 14-15 with a full field of 128 players. Our players proved to be most adaptable as we played our tournament with tee times instead of our traditional shotgun, participated in mobile scoring rather than our traditional paper scorecards, enjoyed a box lunch on the course rather than our usual after-golf banquet and awards were mailed to players after the event! Congratulations to the team of Reecy Casamajor of Bennet Valley WGC and Eden Anderson of Claremont CC for their Low Gross win with a two-day total of 148.
Low Net Winners were the team of Corinne Gulas and Gretchen Kjose both of Hoffman Park
Bus WGC who had a two-day net of 131.
PWGA Legacy Open
Whitney Oaks Golf Course stepped up to host this event at short notice August 11-12. The field was limited to 70 players and quickly filled. Players found a challenging contest of golf over the two-day Championship. Congratulations to 2020 Champion: Elli Gordon of Whitney Oaks GC.
Elli was getting one last competition in before packing up to go off to Boise State for her Freshman Year of College.
WGANC Legacy Team Challenge:
It took a grand total of nine months, but a great team of volunteers patiently waited and persevered and successfully held the first tournament of the year September 14-15 at Seascape GC. A full field of 68 women followed all of the guidelines: single carts, creative masks, diligent use of hand sanitizer and on-course protocols. Boxed lunches and breakfast burritos took the place of traditional fabulous food and post-round award ceremonies. But golf prevailed!
Entrants came from all areas of our membership and were thankful to be a part of this late, but fun and challenging competition.

PWGA Helen Lengfeld (Founders Tournament)
Held October 7 & 8 at San Juan Oak GC and Pajaro Valley GC with a smaller than usual field this year. Great feedback from all of the players, and they enjoyed the special touches such as our tradition of giving each player a Red Apple and a Penny for luck that we carry on in honor of Helen Lengfeld.
Congratulations to our Founders Cup Winner – Linda Fitzmaurice of Lincoln Hills WGC – who had an impressive two day net score of 69/64 for a 133.
Congratulations to the Low Gross Winner – Vicki Philpott of LPGA Amateurs Sacramento – who shot a two day total 82/78 for a 160.
