Due to the Covid-19 virus, the NCGA tournament season is currently suspended through May 15. Among those pining for the return to normalcy are the NCGA’s tournament players. In the next few weeks, we’ll catch up with some of the best and defending Players of the Year as they tell us what they miss about the game.
Randy Haag: Record six-time NCGA Player of the Year; NCGA Hall of Famer
“I miss the preparation that goes into getting mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to compete. I miss the butterflies that I get walking to the first tee. I miss seeing all my good friends that I enjoy competing against. I miss seeing all my good friends at the NCGA, the volunteers, and all those that give their time to the game. I miss the smell of the grass, and the serene surroundings on the course. I miss the paramount challenge that golf throws at me during a tournament round, keeping calm, keeping focused. I miss the elevated heartrate when in the hunt coming down the stretch.
But most of all I miss hanging with my friends that I compete with/against and sharing our experiences after each round and event.
I miss our normal life, a life that perhaps we all took for granted, I don’t think things will ever be the same again after this terrible pandemic. My wish above and beyond golf is that everyone in our expanded golf family is safe, healthy and practicing social distancing.”
