Jesuit High (Sacramento) and Ryan Meyer of Oakdale High were the big winners at Monday’s annual NCGA/CIF High Boys’ Championship at par-72 El Macero Country Club in El Macero.
Jesuit rolled back the clock, shooting a team score of 4-over 364 (best five-out-of-six scores) to claim its first NorCal title since 1990. The aptly named Marauders, who also won the title in 1984, were solid across the board. They’d be paced by a pair of 72s from Josh Wiegandt and Ryan Parry and also got a pair of 73s from Brady Siravo and Chase Sienkiewicz and two 74s by Jack Deaner and Keaton Sutherland.
Defending champion De La Salle of Concord was second at 13-over 373 thanks in part to a 70 by Mitchell Hoey. Third place went to Saratoga High at 375. The top three squads all earned automatic spots into the CIF State Championship, to be held May 29 at Poppy Hills.
In the Individual competition, Meyer earned medalist honors with a sensational, bogey-free 7-under 65 that featured seven birdies.
George McNeely of Carmel High was second at 68, while Dylan McDermott of Granite Bay High took third at 69.
Overall, the low nine (not on teams advancing to State) earned spots into the State finals. Joining Meyer, McNeely and McDermott were Griffin Long (Davis Senior, 70), Jacob Westberg (Inderkum, 70), Mark Stephens (U Prep, 70), Sam Sommerhauser (Whitney, 72), Sebastian Iqbal (Pioneer, 72) and Derek Heisig (Foothill, 73).
