Former Junior Tour of Northern California standout Noah Norton and four others are a step closer to playing in this year’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Norton, who now plays at Georgia Tech, was medalist in Wednesday’s 18-hole local qualifier at Butte Creek CC in Chico after posting a 4-under 67. Norton, who’s from Chico and knows the course well, posted five birdies and a bogey.
Also advancing were co-runners-up Michael Slesiniski of St. Mary’s and Nicklaus Rivera (Dominican University), who both came in at 69.
The final two spots came down to a playoff between three players at 70. Moving on were two-time NCGA Player of the Year Ben Geyer and defending California Amateur champ Bobby Bucey.
The lone U.S. Open Sectional qualifier to be held in California this year will take place June 5 at Big Canyon CC and Newport Beach CC in Southern California.
