Former junior sensation Morgan Pressel is on her way to this year’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Pressel, now age 30 and a member of the LPGA Tour, was medalist in Monday’s 36-hole Sectional qualifier at par-72 Marin Country Club after posting a total score of 9-under 135 (68-67). The youngest player to win an LPGA event, Pressel carded 11 total birdies, including a clutch five on her final back-nine.
Earning second place and also advancing to the championship proper was Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark, who came in at 138 (71-67).
This year’s U.S. Women’s Open will tee off May 30-June 2 at Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
