Amateurs John Sawin and Mark Manwaring and professional Bobby Kent all moved a step closer to competing in this year’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links after advancing through an 18-hole local qualifier held Monday at par-70 Pasatiempo GC in Santa Cruz.
Sawin, Manwaring and Kent all paced the field, shooting co-medalist earning scores of 3-under 67. Sawin is the vice president and Director of Golf for the Pebble Beach Company.
Also moving through the qualifier were pro Kaz Hoffman and amateur Michael Ryder (68), The duo advanced in a playoff against Ben Peters, who becomes the first alternate.
This year’s U.S. Open will tee off June 13-16.
