Charles Osborne of Reno and two others punched their tickets to this year’s U.S. Amateur Championship.
Osborne led the way, carding a 36-hole score of 8-under 136 at Monday’s qualifier held at Sonoma Golf Club. Osborne had rounds of 71-65. The 65 featured a 31 on the back-nine, fueled in part by four straight birdies from holes Nos. 11 through 14.
Matt Cohn, winner of the 2018 NCGA Mid-Amateur, Mark Stephens of Redding and former Junior Tour of Northern California standout Thomas Hutchison all tied for second with scores of 6-under 138. Hutchison and Stephens advanced after a playoff. Cohn is first alternate.
This year’s U.S. Amateur will tee off Aug. 11-18 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
