Brigham Young junior Peter Kuest was medalist in Wednesday’s 36-hole U.S. Amateur at Bayonet/Black Horse GC after shooting 8-under 136.
Kuest, who holds the course record at Poppy Hills (10-under 61), had rounds of 66-70 on the Bayonet course. In the morning round he posted eight birdies to go against just two bogeys.
Joining Kuest as qualifiers were University of Pacific senior Austin Fox (72-68-140) and St. Mary’s sophomore Ryan Grauman (71-70-141).
The first alternate spot went to Matt Lloyd at 142 (72-70).
This year’s U.S. Amateur will tee off Aug.11-18 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
