A pair of players with Junior Tour of Northern California experience is headed to this year’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Record four-time JTNC Girls’ Player of the Year Sabrina Iqbal (pictured, right), now a freshman at Texas Christian University, was medalist in Monday’s 36-hole U.S. Women’s Open Sectional qualifier at Contra Costa CC after posting a score of 141 (70-71). Iqbal was the leader after the first 18 holes of competition.
Also moving on was defending California Women’s Amateur champ Ty Akabane (left). Akabane, who will start playing at UCLA this fall, came in at 142 after back-to-back rounds of 71.
This year’s U.S. Women’s Open will tee off May 30-June 2 at Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
