Monterey Bay GC had the round of the day to come from behind and take the title at the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship. The team, made up of Caesar Aldisert, Marc Cutino, Robert Sutcliffe and David Martin, shot a final-round 20-under 122, for a two day total of 35-under 251. Finishing six strokes behind in second place at 29-under 257 was Monterey Pines GC. Teammates Ron Aivazian, Jonathan Clements, Thomas Howe and Gerald Munday shot a final round 12-under 130. Finishing in third-place, also at 29-under 257 was Carmel Valley Ranch GC. A one-hole playoff was needed to determine the final placing.
The top two teams, Monterey Bay GC and Monterey Pines GC, now advance to the annual NCGA Zone Championship to be held August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.

Monterey Pines Golf Course and Bayonet/Black Horse GC put themselves in good position after opening day of the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship.
Both teams opened with identical scores of 17-under 127 Thursday at par-72 Bayonet/Black Horse GC playing in a format that takes the two best net scores of a four-person team.
Monterey Pines GC is made up of teammates Ron Aivazian, Jonathan Clements, Thomas Howe and Gerald Munday. Bayonet/Black Horse GC is comprised of Tony Brigantino, Brad Gebert, Alan Holmstrom and Bill Schmidt.
Monterey Bay GC and Carmel Valley Ranch GC are T-3 at 129. Only the two low teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, set for August 26-27 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
Friday’s final round will be held at Poppy Hills.
