Professional Eddie Olson made himself at home at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Now he’s on his way to a U.S. Open Sectional qualifier.
Olson, a former standout at UNLV who hails from nearby Aptos, fired a medalist-earning 5-under 65 in Wednesday’s U.S. Open local qualifier on the par-70 Pasatiempo course. Winner of last year’s Monterey Open, Olson carded seven birdies and two bogeys. He’d have a 30 on the front-nine.
Finishing in second at 67 and also advancing was pro Douglas Quinones of Hidden Valley Lake. Also advancing were fellow pros Scott Hoyt and Alex Franklin, who each shot 68. Hoyt is the general manager at Pasatiempo.
Gregory Moss of Sherman Oaks, another pro, also moved on with a 69. The first alternate spot went to John Greco Jr., who also shot 69. The second alternate spot went to Junior Tour of Northern California member George McNeely (69).
