De La Salle High of Concord picked up the team title, while Bryce Kvick of Del Campo High won the individual championship after defeating Achbishop Mitty’s Daniel Kim in a sudden-death playoff.
The De La Salle squad finished the event at par-71 Woodbridge G&CC with a score of 22-over 377. defeating runner-up Menlo High by a stroke. It marked De La Salle’s first NorCal title since 2013 and fifth overall. The Spartans also won NorCal in 2011, 2006 and 2002.
Leading De La Salle were Justin Hopkins and Brandon Hopkins, who shot 72 and 75, respectively. Other De La Salle scores were (best five out of six) were Jack Gardner (76), Garrett Coleman (77), Mitchell Hoey (77) and Mackade Mangels (78).
Menlo, who came in at 378, was paced by Kripa Dharan (73) and Jeremy Yun (75). Finishing in third place, and also advancing to the State Championships, was St Francis High (385).
Both Kvick and Kim finished regulation tied at 2-under 69. Kvick had three birdies and a bogey, while Kim posted five birdies and three bogeys. Kvick won the playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Third place went to Palma’s Joey Burlison at 71. Overall, nine players (not on teams advancing) earned spots into the State Finals, to be held May 30 at San Gabriel CC in San Gabriel.
Others advancing were Justin Gums of Lodi (72), Andrew Chern of Amador Valley (73), George McNeely of Carmel (74), Max Holm of Las Las Lomas (74), Trey Davis of River Valley (74) and Ryan Burnett of Campolindo (74).
