Recent Lodi High School graduate Justin Gums is headed back to the U.S. Junior Amateur championship.
Gums, who also qualified for the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur, fired a 6-under 66 at Monday’s qualifier held at par 72 Yolo Fliers Club. His round included eight birdies and two bogeys to earn medalist honors. Gums has committed to play golf for TCU starting in the Fall.
Finishing second to Gums and also advancing is Bryce Kvick after his 4-under round of 68. Kvick, who is a 2018 graduate from Del Campo High School, will play golf for Long Beach State after he concludes his junior career.
With just the top three advancing to the championship proper, there was a playoff for the final qualifying spot. Advancing from the playoff after a round of 3-under 69 is Chase Sienkiewicz, who will be a senior at Jesuit High School in Carmichael, CA this fall.
Ryan Meyer of Oakdale, CA takes the first alternate spot after also shooting 3-under 69. Joey Burlison from Salinas, CA, takes the second alternate spot after shooting 2-under 70.
This year’s U.S. Junior Amateur will tee off July 15-21 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.
