Dougherty Valley High of San Ramon has its first NorCal girls’ golf crown.
The Wildcats shot a team score of 30-over 390 Monday at par-72 Woodbridge G&CC to defeat runner-up Granite Bay High by two strokes and win the NCGA/CIF NorCal High School Girls’ Golf Championship. Both Dougherty Valley and Granite Bay and third place Carondelet High of Concord earned automatic spots into this year’s CIF Girls’ State High School Championship, slated for Nov. 14 at Victoria GC in Riverside.
Dougherty Valley was led by a 73 from Danielle Suh and a 76 from Stella Lin. Other Wildcats scores (best five-out-of-six) were Melinda Yuan (77), Emily Hou (82), Sammy Lee (82) and Steffi Lin (84).
Granite Bay (392), who was hoping for its first NorCal crown, was paced by a 71 by Yena Jang and a 77 from Yewon Jang. Carondelet (393), who was also in the mix, got a 71 from Carissa Wu and a 73 by Madelyn Gamble.
Yena Jang and Wu, who had an ace, finished regulation tied for the Individual title. Wu would win the Individual crown, making par on the first hole of a playoff.
Overall, nine players (not on teams qualifying) advanced to the State finals. Those moving on were Anna Chen of Pleasant Valley (72), Natalie Vo of Harker (73), Jackie Lucena of Pleasant Valley (73), Mika Jin of Irvington (74), Bridget O’Keefe of Palo Alto (75), Linette Jun of Valley Christian (75), Niav Layton of Castilleja (76), Anitra Khoth of Lincoln-Stockton (76) and Alice Liu of Foothill (77).
