Wildhorse Golf Club came from behind to win the annual Sacramento Zone Championship.
Wildhorse Golf Club shot a final round 19-under 123 at par-71 Poppy Hills GC Tuesday. Their two day total of 32-under 250 gave them a thirteen shot cushion over runner-up Dry Creek GC. The Wildhorse Golf Club team, made up of Lee Fuller, Derek Wright, Chris Sweeney, and Brett Johnson, had two double-eagles, seven eagles and three birdies, along with two bogeys and one double-bogey on their card.
The Dry Creek GC team, Derek Yamamoto, Eddie Sison, Scott Pierson and Ray Ashby, shot a final round 4-under 138 for a 19-under 263 total to hang on to their second place position. Their round included five eagles, three birdies, three bogeys and three double-bogeys.
Finishing tied for third place at 17-under 265 was Wildhawk GC and Micke Grove GC.
With their finishes, both Wildhorse Golf Club and Dry Creek GC advanced to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, set for August 27-28 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Dry Creek GC is the team to catch after day one of the annual NCGA Sacramento Zone Championship.
Dry Creek GC, made up of teammates Derek Yamamoto, Eddie Sison, Scott Pierson and Ray Ashby, fired a first round 15-under 125 at par 70 Carmel Valley Ranch GC to take a two stroke lead over Whildhorse GC. Their round included three double-eagles, one eagle and four birdies in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Wildhorse Golf Club, comprised of Lee Fuller, Derek Wright, Chris Sweeney, and Brett Johnson, made six eagles, five birdies, along with two bogeys and one-double bogey en route to a 13-under 127.
Cordova GC is alone in third place at 9-under 131.
Tuesday’s final round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills GC.
Only the two low teams following play will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 27-28 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
