Remembering NCPGA Executive Director Chris Thomas
The golf world was recently stunned by the sudden and unexpected passing of longtime PGA member and 15-year Northern California Executive Director Chris Thomas, who died Oct. 24.
Thomas, 54, oversaw all PGA programming offered through the Section and Foundation to the 1,100-plus PGA Members and Apprentices working at over 400 public, private and resort facilities in Northern California and western Nevada.
Also the president of the California Alliance for Golf, Thomas was the chief architect in building strategic plans for both the Section and Foundation and maintained responsibility for all finances including two budgets exceeding $2 million annually. Most recently, he had formed a Player Development department focusing on growth of the game programming and PGA of America initiatives.
In working with the NCGA, Thomas in 2012 helped create the Junior Tour of Northern California, which today hosts over 40 tournaments annually for boys and girls ages 10-18. Other duties included working alongside Employment Consultants and serving as a spokesperson for industry committees, task forces and media inquiries.
He is survived by his wife Selena and two daughters, Tara and Taylor.
Services for Thomas will be held Wednesday, Nov, 15 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at El Macero Country Club in El Macero. Cards may be sent to: 5236 Hamel St., Davis, CA 95616
Additionally, A YouCaring page has been created to raise funds to support the Thomas family. Money raised will go towards funding college for Taylor & Tara. Click here for the donation page.
