Langer, McCarron Head PURE Insurance Championship Field
Bernhard Langer and Scott McCarron – the leading candidates for Player of the Year on the PGA TOUR Champions – head the list of all-time tour stars for the PURE Insurance Championship, set to return to Poppy Hills Golf Course and Pebble Beach Golf Links from Sept. 19-24.
The star-studded field features the ageless Langer, a four-time winner on the tour at age 60, and McCarron, who has won three times this year. They will be joined by Kenny Perry and Brandt Jobe, who also are among the leaders in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, along with defending champion Paul Broadhurst, three-time tournament winner Jeff Sluman, and Sir Nick Faldo – all playing with The First Tee’s select junior golfers from around the country.
“The title sponsor has changed, but there is nothing different about the unique format of the tournament, which pairs legendary names in golf with future generations of players on one of the most iconic venues in golf,” said Steve John, tournament director and CEO for Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the host organization.
Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (PURE) Insurance has a four-year agreement in place through 2020 to be the title sponsor of the popular PGA TOUR Champions event, now in its 14th year.
General admission tickets are just $25 and provide tournament access all week long. Complimentary parking is available inside the gates of Pebble Beach. Members of the military and children 15 and younger get in free. Net proceeds benefit charity.
The format for the PURE Insurance Championship consists of 81 PGA TOUR Champions players, who team up with 81 boys and girls ages 14-18 from The First Tee chapters around the country. The juniors are selected annually by a national panel of judges that evaluate participants’ playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and core values learned through their involvement with The First Tee.
The First Tee is a nonprofit youth development organization with golf programs centered on building character through Nine Core Values™: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.
Since 2004, the tournament has been one of the most exciting stops on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule, producing champions such as World Golf Hall of Fame member Hale Irwin (2005), Sluman (2008, 2009, 2011), Triplett (2012, 2013) and John Cook (2014).
