Colt McNealy Earns Spot into Ellie Mae Classic
Brother of former Stanford star and current World No.2 Amateur Maverick McNealy
Turns out, Maverick McNealy isn’t the only member of the McNealy clan who can come up big in the clutch.
On Tuesday, Maverick’s younger brother, Colt, earned a spot in the field of this year’s Web.com Tour Ellie Mae Classic by shooting a medalist-earning 1-under 70 in an 18-hole Junior Tour of Northern California qualifier held on the TPC Stonebrae course in Hayward.
Colt, who’ll be a freshman at Stanford this fall, edged three players, including defending JTNC Player of the Year Thomas Hutchison, for the lone spot. Former JTNC Player of the Year Josh McCarthy, who played in last year’s Ellie Mae Classic after advancing through the qualifier, presented McNealy with the qualifying winner’s plaque.
“I can’t put into words how excited I am to play. We all really appreciate the Ellie Mae Classic giving back to the game by doing things like this,” Colt said.
This year’s Ellie Mae Classic will be held July 31-August 6.
Maverick McNealy, currently the No.2 world-ranked amateur, competed in last year’s Ellie Mae Classic on a sponsor’s exemption. So will the two brothers play together this year? Don’t count on it.
Maverick isn’t expected to play in this year’s event due to a rather large schedule conflict. The recent Stanford grad is set to tee off at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, July 20-23.
