Players challenged the par-71 Poppy Hills in the second leg of the Public Links Net Championship. The first round of the event was played at the par-72 Bayonet GC.
Big Sur Flight (9.3 handicap index-below)
Poppy Ridge GC member Jarret Jern completed the comeback victory at Poppy Hills with a final-round 2-under-par 69, putting him at 3-under-par 140 for the event. Jern caught fire early on with a birdie on the par-5 first, he would tally three more birdies and an eagle on his way to a 4-under front nine.
Finishing in second via card-off was William Alexander of Ancil Hoffman GC, who followed his first-round 66 with a 5-over-par 76. Half Moon Bay GC’s Dave Cresson shot 1-under par at Poppy Hills to join him in the card-off with a tournament total 1-under-par 142.
Golden Gate Flight (9.4-12.9 handicap index)
NAS GA member Paul Gamez began his day nine shots back of the leader, but put together a second-round 6-under-par 65, capped off with a bogey-free 5-under performance on his second nine to claim first place in the Golden Gate Flight.
Alone in second place, Ted Patchet of Indian Valley GC finished at 1-under-par 142 just two shots off the lead. Lone possession of third place belonged to Justin Sumpter of Bayonet/Blackhorse GC who shot even on the round and finished at even-par 143 for the tournament.
Yosemite Flight (13.0 handicap index-above)
There was only one Yosemite Flight player under-par in the second round, and it was enough for Stephen Ackley to claim the victory. A 5-under-par 66 earned the Bartley Cavanaugh GC member a five stroke victory at 10-under par for the event.
Alone in second place, Josh Torres of Eagle Ridge GC finished at 5-under par for the event, capped off by a 3-over-par 74 at Poppy Hills. Third place belonged to Mark Thomas of the Transit Hackers GC at even-par 143.

Players began the chase for titles as the annual NCGA Public Links Net Championship got underway Monday at par-72 Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside. Tuesday’s final round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Big Sur Flight (9.3 handicap index-below)
Ancil Hoffman GC member William Alexander is the guy to chase after coming in with a stellar first round score of 6-under 66. Alexander was on fire, carding an eagle on the par-5 7th to go with six birdies. His lone miscues would be a bogey and double-bogey.
Tied for second, after matching opening scores of 70, are Hp Roseville member Steve Hopson and Harding Park GC member Greg Zipp. Alone in fourth place at 71, just four shots behind the leader, is Poppy Ridge GC member Jarrett Jern.
Golden Gate Flight (9.4-12.9 handicap index)
Ukiah GC member Bo Strong jumped out of the gates, taking the first lead with a score of 6-under 66. Strong racked up two eagles and six birdies to go against a pair of bogeys and a double-bogey.
Alone in second place, four strokes back after a 70, is Poppy Ridge GC member Venkat Devireddy. Paul Ventimiglio, a member of East Bay Coaches, is in third place after a 71.
Yosemite Flight (13.0 handicap index-above)
Eagle RIdge GC member Josh Torres is the player to catch, as he’d take the first round lead with a score of 8-under 64. Torres had the hot hand, posting two eagles and seven birdies to against just one bogey and a double-bogey.
Alone in second place at 67 is Bartley Cavanaugh GC member Stephen Ackley. Ackley had an eagle and five birdies with just two bogeys. Joe Scalisi, playing out of Bushwood CC, is in third place following an opening 69.
