UC Davis sophomore and former Junior Tour of Northern California member Yoonhee Kim is headed to this year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
Kim, who plays at Davis, fired a medalist-earning 5-under 67 in an 18-hole qualifier held Monday at Cameron Park CC in Cameron Park. She’d card six birdies to go against just one bogey. On the back-nine, Kim posted a 32.
Overall, 10 players punched their tickets to the championship proper. Finishing as runner-up was Redwood Shores resident Lucy Li (69), who earlier qualified for the U.S. Girls’ Junior. In 2014, Li garnered national attention by becoming the youngest player (age 11) to qualify for a U.S. Women’s Open.
Jamie Binns of San Diego and Siyan Chen of China finished T-3 at 70. Another six players–including former NCGA Junior Championship winner Samantha Hutchison and recent NCGA Women’s Amateur winner Sabrina Iqbal–finished T-5 at 72. Hutchison also plays for the Aggies.
This year’s U.S Women’s Amateur will tee off Aug. 7-13 at San Diego CC in Chula Vista.
