Pleasant Hill resident Gary Vanier, the 2016 NCGA Super Senior Player of the Year, has opted to compete in the Senior division of this year’s annual San Francisco City Championship.
So far, so great.
Vanier will be the No.1 seed in this year’s championship after earning medalist honors during a qualifier held Tuesday at par-72 TPC Harding Park. The three-time S.F. City Senior champ shot a 71, two shots better than Tim Grunsky and defending S.F. City Senior champion Randy Haag.
The cutline to advance to match play came at 8-over 80. Among the others advancing to match play were record 5-time NCGA Senior Player of the Year Jim Knoll (76), Dean Prince (74) and 2015 NCGA Senior Valley Amateur champ Joey Ferrari (80).
