You can always count on the annual San Francisco City Championship to get a dose of wet and windy weather. As for the brackets, they experience some topsy-turvy moments as well.
In what seems to be another S.F. City tradition, the brackets got turned upside down following the opening weekend of match play at TPC Harding Park. Each of the Top Four seeds: No.1 Brendon Choe, No.2 Ashkaan Hakim, No.3 Isaiah Choi and No.4 Ben Peters all got knocked out within the first three rounds.
The highest seed remaining entering the quarterfinals (Saturday, March 18) is No.5 Brendan Hy of San Ramon, who’ll next take on No.52 Ned Jensen of S.F., who’s march through the brackets includes defeating Peters.
The other quarterfinals matches will see No. 32 Brian Ma taking on No.9 Graysen Huff, No.19 Jason Anthony facing No.6 Seb Crookall-Nixon and No.63 Kyle Wilkinson taking on either No.7 Brandon Jacobs or No.23 Kalle Kangas. The Jacobs-Kangas Round of 16 match was tied through 19 holes before play was suspended due to darkness. It will resume Saturday morning.
Former champions of the event include Ken Venturi, Harvie Ward and George Archer.
