The Northern California PGA finally got to hold the Hanna-Wehrman Cup trophy again, while the NCPGA Seniors kept their grasp on the Staedler-Jetter trophy.

It was bound to happen at some point. The NCPGA ended an 11-year drought, capturing the Hanna-Wehrman Cup with a tight 10.5-9.5 win over the NCGA on Tuesday at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill.
“I can retire now,” said NCPGA captain Paul Wilcox, who was at the helm for many of the dry years.
Trailing 6-4 after Monday’s opening rounds, the NCPGA flipped the script in Singles play, outscoring their amateur counterparts, 6.5-3.5.
The NCPGA’s charge included wins from Jason Owen, Jason Schmul and Steve Watanabe. The NCGA got victories from Matt Cohn (3 and 2), Garrett Wagner (5 and 3) and Domingo Jojola (3 and 2).
“It was a tough match. They pulled it out at the end,” said NCGA captain Tom Bone.
The NCGA still leads in the overall Hanna-Wehrman Cup series, 24-19-9.
Staedler-Jetter Cup
Things held to recent form in the Staedler-Jetter Cup, as the NCPGA rolled to a 17.5-10.5 win, marking their sixth straight victory over the NCGA.
Casey Boyns won his match 3 and 2, while Terry Foreman and Jim Knoll each earned half a point. Knoll was 2-up on Mike Cook heading to the 17th tee. Cook would finish eagle-birdie to get a halve.
The NCGA’s Super Seniors–Frank Pieper, Mark Miller, Herb Jensen and Chuck Richesin–all either won their match or at least halved.
The last time the NCPGA swept both Cup matches was 1996.
“Congratulations to the NCPGA,” Bone said. “Everyone played well.”
