*The top three teams and, top nine individuals not on any of the top three teams will advance to CIF State Tournament Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Valley Christian High of San Jose made it a sweep at the annual CIF/NCGA Northern California High School Girls’ Championship at par-73 Sierra View CC in Roseville.
Valley Christian came in with a team score of 18-over 383, defeating runner-up Granite Bay (387) by four strokes. The win by Valley Christian snapped St. Francis of Mountain View’s four-year winning streak. St. Francis did not qualify for State, finishing at 393. Third place went to Daugherty Valley (San Ramon) at 388. Daughety Valley and Carondelet had finished tied. The tie-breaker would be the sixth players’ score.
Leading Valley Christian was medalist and individual champion Quynn Duong, who shot a 69 featuring five birdies and a bogey. Other scores for Valley Christian (best five scores out of six) were Kristine Tran (72), Nicole Vivier (76), Linette Jun (78), Meghan Duong (88) and Allison Nguyen (94).
Granite Bay was paced by individual runner-up Sienna Lyford (70) and Hailey Reitz (77).
Players advancing to State as an individual included Elizabeth Lu of Los Gatos (71), Sabrina Iqbal of Pioneer (73), Stephanie Yu of Palo Alto (73), Madelyn Gamble of Carondelet (73), Elizabeth Scholtes of Alameda (74), Kayla Diaz of McClatchy (74), Doodle Yuen of St. Francis (75) and Aishvaryn Bedi of St. Francis (75). The ninth and last spot went to Mika Jin of Irvington at 77. Jin defeated six other players on the first playoff hole with a birdie.
