Pebble Beach’s Seb Crampton made it a wire-to-wire at the annual Alameda Commuters Championship.
Crampton, a red-shirt junior at Cal, fired a final round 4-under 68 on the Earl Fry North at Chuck Corica Golf Complex to come in at 15-under 269, defeating runner-up Andrew Bonner by five strokes. The former Stevenson School standout’s 72-hole total of 269 was just three strokes shy of the tournament record (266), originally set by Matt Bettencourt in 2002 and tied by Jonathan De Los Reyes in 2014.
Coming off a sophomore season where he had two Top 10 finishes for the Bears, Crampton took a four shot lead into Sunday’s final round after carding a solid third round 67.
Bonner, of Ripon, had a final round 68 to finish at 274. Jason Antony, a member at Olympic Club, and Jake Goodman shared third place at 275 after final rounds of 69 and 67, respectively.
In the Senior Championship, Granite Bay GC member Jeff Hoffman, who turned 55 in February, shot rounds of 68-71 to come in at 3-under 139, defeating runner-up Jim Knoll by five shots. Knoll, who shot back-to-back rounds of 72, has won the Senior title a record four times.
