Daniel Licursi and Danny Wax came up north to earn their spot in next year’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
Licursi and Wax, who both hail from Los Angeles, fired an 8-under 63 in an 18-hole qualifier held Wednesday at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach. The duo posted eight birdies with zero bogeys, getting four birdies on each nine. Their big surge came on hoes No.14-No.17, which they birdied in succession.
Finishing in second place and also earning an automatic spot into the championship proper were partners Tug Maude and John Sawin. Maude, of Atlanta, and Sawin, of San Francisco, carded a 64 that featured nine birdies and a bogey. The duo would shoot 30 on the back-nine.
Three teams tied at 66 for the first and second alternate spots. The first alternate went to the team of Kevin Clark and Marc Smith after a three-hole playoff. The second alternates are Christopher Laughlin and Zachary Frazier.
The 2018 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be tee off May 19-23 at Jupiter Hills Club in Florida.
