Anthony Manguray is headed to this year’s U.S. Amateur.
Manguray, who formerly played at CSU-Stanislaus, shot a medalist-earning score of 13-under 131 in Monday’s 36-hole U.S. Amateur qualifier at par-72 Sunnyside CC in Fresno. He’d post rounds of 67-64, collecting 14 birdies on the day.
Also advancing to the championship proper were Blake Collyer and St. Mary’s freshman Ashkaan Hakim, who finished second and third, respectively, at 133 and 136. Hakim was fueled by a first round 63 that saw him birdie nine holes on his front-nine.
The first alternate is former Alameda Commuters champ Peter Kuest (137). The second alternate is Everton Hawkins (141).
This year’s U.S. Amateur will tee off Aug. 14-20 at Riviera CC in Pacific Palisades.
