Big Sur Flight (10.3 Handicap Index-Below)
Harding Park GC member Randy Shirbroun made it a wire-to-wire win. Shirbroun shot a second round 6-under 66 to finish at 12-under 132, defeating runner-up Travis Early of Shelter Cove GC by a shot. Shirbround, who had a clutch birdie on the 18th, carded two eagles and seven birdies in the final round.
Early shot a second round 63 to make things interesting. Third place went to Darkhorse GC member Dominic Tognolini at 134 after a 66.
Golden Gate Flight (10.4 Handicap Index-14.1)
Buchanan Fields GC member Carl Thoreson came up huge when it counted. Thoreson fired a second round 11-under 61 to come in at 14-under 130, winning the title by six shots. Thoreson would card an eagle and 10 birdies to go against just one bogey in the final.
Second place went to Mark Hill of Sacramento GC at 136 after a 66. Patrick Dintino of Golden Gate Par Chasers was third at 138.
Yosemite Flight (14.2 Handicap Index-Above)
Cold Springs G&CC member Russ Anders cooled off, but still ran away with a five shot victory. A day after a blistering 59, Anders shot a second round 68 to finish at 17-under 127.
Second place went to Mike Bates of Shelter Cove GC at 132 after a 67. Mike Cahaley of Aptos Seascape GC and Andy Tarap of Vintner’s Golf Club tied for third at 137.

The chase for titles at the 2017 NCGA Net Amateur got underway Monday at par-72 Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore.

Harding Park GC member Randy Shirbroun jumped out to the lead, posting a solid 6-under 66 that included eight birdies and just two bogeys. Starting on the back-nine, Shirbroun made a move with three straight birdies on holes No.13-No.15.
In second place at 68 is Darkhorse GC member Dominic Tognolini. Both Fred Luper of Hidden Valley Lake GC and Travis Early of Shelter Cove GC are tied for third at 70.

Both Chase Watts of Paso Robles Mens GC and Carl Thoreson of Buchanan Fields GC are tied for second at 69. Mark Hill of Sacramento GC is alone in third place at 70.

In second place at 65 is Shelter Cove GC’s Mike Bates. Mike Cahaely of Aptos Seascape GC is alone in third at 69.

First played in 1994, the NCGA Net Amateur Championship is an individual handicap event for NCGA members of regular clubs. It is contested in three flights divided by handicap index. The championship rotates every year between Poppy Hills GC and Poppy Ridge GC.
