Blackhawk CC took the title in dramatic fashion.
Blackhawk CC shot a final round 15-under 127 at Quail Lodge to finish at 23-under 261 and went on to beat Summitpointe CC in a playoff to win the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship. Both teams guaranteed themselves spots in this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 28-29 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
A day after shooting 134 at Poppy Hills, team Blackhawk—Mark Simpson, Ted Tsuchiyama, Tim Ryan and Jeoung Oh—carded six eagles and five birdies to go against just two bogeys playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Summitpointe CC, the first round leader, shot a final round 128. The Summitpointe squad, made up of teammates Mark Reynolds, Bill Riddle, Jon Carone and Joel Tyrus, posted four eagles and eight birdies to go against three bogeys in the finale.
Redwood Canyon GC was third at 263 after a final round score of 127.

Summitpointe CC is the team to chase after day one of the annual NCGA East Bay Zone Championship.
Playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team, Summitpointe finished round one at par-71 Poppy Hills GC with a score of 9-under 133. The Summitpointe CC squad, made up of teammates Mark Reynolds, Bill Riddle, Jon Carone and Joel Tyrus, posted four eagles and six birdies to go against just two bogeys.
In second place at 134 is Blackhawk CC. The Blackhawk team, comprised of Mark Simpson, Ted Tsuchiyama, Tim Ryan and Jeoung Oh, carded two eagles and five birdies with two bogeys.
Currently tied for third at 136 are Lake Chabot GC and Redwood Canyon GC.
Tuesday’s second round will see play shift over to Quail Lodge GC in Carmel Valley.
The top two teams will earn automatic berths into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 28-29 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
