Oakdale GC came back to grab the victory.
Oakdale GC shot a final round 19-under 123 at Poppy Hills Golf Course to finish at 34-under 250 and claim the title at the annual NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship. The Oakdale GC squad, made up of teammates Brian Stewart, Bob Aronson, Paul Aronson and Mickey Schilber, carded eight eagles and three birdies with just one bogey playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
They had entered the final round seven shots behind first round leaders Rancho Del Rey GC.
Rancho Del Rey GC shot 134 to come in at 30-under 254 to earn second place. A day after shooting a 120 at Quail Lodge Resort, Rancho Del Rey GC, made up of teammates Jeremy Deleon, Rich Howard, Jim Passadon and Mike Moorehead, posted two eagles and seven birdies but also three bogeys.
Both Oakdale GC and Rancho Del Rey GC earned automatic spots into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 28-29 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Merced G&CC and Diablo Grande GC finished third at 260 after final rounds of 133 and 128, respectively.

Rancho Del Rey GC got off to a hot start.
The Rancho Del Rey GC squad took the first round lead Thursday at this year’s annual NCGA Central Valley Zone Championship, posting an opening score of 22-under 120 at par-71 Quail Lodge Resort in Carmel Valley. Comprised of teammates Jeremy Deleon, Rich Howard, Jim Passadon and Mike Moorehead, Rancho Del Rey GC posted seven eagles and six birdies to go against just one bogey in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Three teams–Oakdale G&CC, Elkhorn GC and Merced G&CC—are tied for second at 127.
The top two teams following Friday’s final round will move on to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 28-29 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Friday’s final round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills.
