North Ridge CC made it a wire-to-wire victory.
North Ridge CC shot a final round 17-under 125 Friday at par-71 Poppy Hills GC to claim the title at the annual NCGA East Sacramento Zone Championship. The North Ridge squad—made up of teammates Peter Oftedahl, Jon Blackstad, William Brennan and Mike Smth—posted seven eagles and five birdies to go against four bogeys in the finale playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team. They’d finish the event with a two-day total of 34-under 250.
Claiming second place was Cameron Park CC, who came in at 252 following a 126. The Cameron Park CC squad, made up of teammates Kevin Keane, John Welter, Dan Ellis and Jay Washburn, carded five eagles and seven birdies to go against two bogeys.
Both North Ridge CC and Cameron Park CC earned automatic spots into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 28-29 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Third place went to Castle Oaks GC at 253.

North Ridge CC took the first round lead, but this year’s East Sacramento Zone Championship looks like it’ll come down to the final putt.
North Ridge CC shot an opening score of 17-under 125 Thursday at Quail Lodge Resort, but three teams–Cameron Park CC, SIerra View CC and Antelope Greens GC—are just a stroke behind the leaders. The North Ridge squad—made up of teammates Peter Oftedahl, Jon Blackstad, William Brennan and Mike Smth–carded eight eagles and two birdies playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Only the top two teams after Friday’s final round will advance to this year’s annual NCGA Zone Championship, slated for Aug. 28-29 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Friday’s final round will see play shift over to par-71 Poppy Hills.
