Champions were crowned Sunday at the 20th annual NCGA Foursomes Championship held at Poppy Ridge GC in Livermore.
Overall Gross
NCGA veteran Mike Stieler and daughter Kelsi made it back-to-back titles in the Overall Gross Division. The duo followed up an opening round score of 3-under 69 with a 76 to come in at 145 and claim the title by a stroke over the runner-up tandem of Brian Walters and Bobby Maidens. The Stieler’s overall red figures included an eagle and eight birdies.
Walters and Maidens (75-71-146) had six total birdies over their 36 holes. Third place went to the tandem of Dalvinder and Navdeep Sanghera at 151.
Open Division Net
Brian Walters and Bobby Maidens notched a tight one stroke win over three teams. Walters and Maidens, who opened with a 72, shot a second round 67 on Sunday to finish at 5-under 139.
The two were clutch at the finish line as well, carding a crucial net eagle on the par-4 17th and a closing birdie on the 18th. The three strokes gained helped them knock off the tandems of Tim Buckmaster/Charles Hancock, Linda Wilson/Joyce Glatt and Carl Thoreson/Jeanne Benedetti by a stroke. Thoreson and Benedetti were in control after a first round 67, but fell back to a 73 in the finale.
Parent/Child Net
The father-son tandem of Tim and Justin Lazaruk cruised to a five shot win. The Lazaruks followed up a sizzling opening round 64 with a with a 68 to finish at 12-under 132. Overall, the two posted two eagles and 15 birdies to go against five bogeys and a double-bogey.
Second place went to the team of Charles Huff and Sandra Hinzmann with a 36-hole score of 137 following a final round 67. Third place was won by the tandem of Michael and De Tan with a score of 140.
