Global Golf Post to Pay Greens Fees for 2016 San Francisco City Finalists
The finalists in this year’s 100th San Francisco City Championship will get a bit more than a chance at winning the title.
On Tuesday, digital golf news magazine Global Golf Post announced that it will donate the funds for the greens fees for all 22 finalists of this year’s championship.
“We got our inspiration from Bay Area amateur golfer (and record six-time NCGA Player of the Year) Randy Haag,” said Global Golf Post’s founder and publisher Jim Nugent. “On the eve of the championship, he pointed out in his blog that competitors had to pay their greens fees as they advanced. We have been a sponsor of this historically-significant amateur event for several years, and I thought we could do even more to support it.”
Under the plan, the finalists in each flight of the March 13 finals at Harding Park GC will not have to any greens fees to compete in their championship matches. In addition, the winners will be featured in a congratulatory ad in the March 14 edition of Global Golf Post.
“Amateur golf is a part of the DNA of The Post,” added Nugent. “We take great pride and similar joy in supporting the amateur game, globally.”
