Inaugural Poppy Hills ‘Run Fore Fun’ Race This Sunday
January 4, 2016
If your New Year’s resolution includes getting in better shape, and you enjoy supporting good causes, then Poppy Hills Golf Course will be the place you’ll want to be this Sunday.
On January 10, Poppy Hills will host the inaugural 5K and 10K ‘Run Fore Fun’ as part of Fleet Feet Sports’ Run the Bay Race Series. All proceeds will benefit Youth on Course, which provides opportunities for kids through access to affordable golf, employment opportunities, scholarships and internships.
Making the ‘Run Fore Fun’ a one-of-a-kind event will be the course, which is a 5K loop through the Poppy Hills’ back-nine (holes No.10-18). Those running the 10K will do the loop twice.
At the 11th hole, runners will take a brief detour onto the fire road of Del Monte Forest before rejoining the path before No.12. Runners will then continue on the path until the 18th hole, where they will merge onto the fairway and make a final dash to the finish line. An aid station and restrooms will be available midway through the loop.
As part of the festivities, there will also be a free 1K race for kids. The 5K and 10K races will start at 7:30 a.m., with the Kids’ race beginning at 7:15 a.m.
Both the 5K and 10K will be professionally chip times, with awards going to the top three overall male and female finishers for each race. Each participant will receive a medal and t-shirt and be treated to a post-race ‘19th hole’ breakfast complete with mimosas and beers.
Packet pick-up will be at Fleet Feet in Monterey (912 Del Monte Center) and Aptos (26 Rancho Del Mar) on Saturday the 9th from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
