Professional Brandon Harkins did it again.
Harkins, a two-time winner of the Monterey Open and Web.com Tour member who lives in Arizona, fired a medalist-earning 5-under 67 in a local qualifier for this year’s U.S. Open held Monday at par-72 Ruby Hill in Pleasanton. Harkins was the medalist at a 2015 local qualifier held at Ruby Hill, shooting 70.
A former standout at Chico State, Harkins carded seven birdies to go against two bogeys.
Three players finished in a tie for second at 70 and also earned berths into Sectional Qualifying— Zachary Solomon of Sacramento, Drew Olson of San Francisco and Ruby Hills pro Scott Yeakel of Carmel.
Pro Gregor Main of Danville was the last player to move on after coming with a 71.
The first alternate spot went to Junior Tour of Northern California member Ahmed Ali. The second alternate spot was claimed by amateur Ronnie McDowell (72).
