Atascadero GC came back to claim the title.
Atascadero GC posted a final round 17-under 125 at par-71 Quail Lodge Resort to finish at 28-under 254 and win the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship.
The Atascadero GC squad, which came into the final round trailing Nicklaus Club Monterey by three, posted three eagles and 11 birdies to go against just one bogey, The Atascadero squad, made up of teammates Clayton Davis, Rich Enger, Jack Delore and David Payne, earned an automatic spot into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Also earning a berth into the championship was runner-up Pajaro Valley GC, who had a 127 to come in at 255. The Pajaro Valley GC squad is comprised of teammates Andrew Petulla, Michael Cordoni, Ralph Ramirez and Chris Boulerice.

NCGA South Coast Zone
Nicklaus Club Monterey is in the driver’s seat, but there’s still 18 holes to go.
Nicklaus Club Monterey took the lead in the annual NCGA South Coast Zone Championship, posting a 14-under 126 Monday at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch. The Nicklaus Club Monterey squad, made up of teammates Mike Bailey, Jon Erlandson, Steve Kayser and Todd Tice, penciled in six eagles and four birdies to go against two double-bogeys playing in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
In second place, just a stroke behind at 127, is Carmel Valley Ranch GC. The Carmel Valley Ranch GC team, made up of teammates Ted Golding, Paul Robedeau, Joe Snyder and Brent Johnson, had six eagles and five birdies to go with a bogey and two double-bogeys.
Three teams–Rancho Canada GC, Hunter Ranch GC and Pajaro Valley GC– are tied for third place at 128.
Tuesday’s second round will see play move over to par-71 Quail Lodge Resort. Only the low two teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
