Big Sur Flight (8.3 handicap index-below)
Rancho Solano GC member Michael Wilson came up big when he had to. Wilson posted a final round 1-under 70 to come in at 1-over 143, winning the title by three shots at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Sean Odea of El Macero CC finished second at 146 after carding his second straight 73. Both Randy Pickens of Valley Oaks GC and Rancho Murieta’s Steven Jones finished T-3 at 148 following rounds of 75 and 76, respectively. Pickens was awarded third place in a card-off.
Golden Gate Flight (8.4 handicap index-13.0)
Antioch GC member Mario Lamacchia put together a furious charge to come from behind and take the title. Lamacchia posted a final round 6-under 65 to finish at 140, edging runner-up Travis Early of Shelter Cove GC by a stroke. Lamacchia’s final round included two eagles and seven birdies.
Early also made a run, posting a second round 67. Third place went to Rancho Canada Players GG member Jeff Frye at 143 following a 73.
Yosemite Flight (13.1 handicap index-above)
Empire Ranch member Charles Burns made it two solid rounds in a row to hold on for the victory. Burns shot a final round 71 to come in at 143, defeating co-runner-ups Stephen Ackley and Mike Martinez by one. Burns is only the second Empire Ranch member to win an NCGA Net Amateur title.
Ackley, playing out of Bartley Cavanaugh GC, made a run at the top with a final round 69. Martinez, a member at Ridgemark G&CC, posted a final round 74. Ackley would be awarded second place following a card-off.
