Junior Tour of Northern California member Noah Woolsey and partner Zach Smith are headed to the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Pinehurst.
Woolsey and Smith punched their tickets by posting a medalist-earning 8-under 63 in an 18-hole qualifier held Wednesday at chilly Poppy Hills GC in Pebble Beach. The duo caught fire in the cold air, carding nine birdies to go against just one bogey. They’d card a 6-under 30 on the tougher front-nine thanks in part to four straight birdies from holes No.6-No.9.
Also advancing to the championship proper was the tandem of Brent Booth and Dan Valine. Booth, a former standout at UC Davis, and Valine shot a 64 that featured eight birdies and a lone bogey. They’d card matching 32’s on each nine.
The first alternate spot went to Luke Bakke and Jay Reynolds at 65. The second alternate spot was claimed by Zan Banks and Brian Ferris (66).
The 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be held May 27-31 at Pinehurst.
