San Luis Obispo residents Jordan Wright and Jesse Yap are headed to the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
The duo shot a medalist-earning 10-under 62 in a qualifier held Monday at Serrano CC in El Dorado Hills. Also advancing to the championship proper was the tandem of brothers Dan and Ben Corfee of Sacramento (63).
Wright and Yap went mistake-free, carding an eagle to go with eight birdies. The Corfee brothers posted 10 birdies but also a bogey. Ben Corfee won the 2015 NCGA Four-Ball Championship playing with then-partner Scott Raber.
The first alternate spot went to Russell Humphrey and James Watt of Lodi at 65. The two won the NCGA Four-Ball Championship in 2012.
The second alternate spot was claimed by the tandem of Fairfield’s Aaron Beverly and Roseville’s Connor Day. Beverly was runner-up at the 2014 NCGA Amateur Match Play Championship.
The 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will tee off May 27-31 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
