Vallejo GC did just enough to get the job done.
The Vallejo GC squad shot a second round 8-under 136 Tuesday at par-72 Spyglass Hill to win the title at the 50th NCGA Zone Championship with a two-day score of 32-under 254. Coming off a sizzling first round score of 24-under 118, they’d hang on to defeat co-runner-ups Dragonfly GC and Atascadero GC by one shot.
It’s the first time in the 50 years of the event that Vallejo GC has won an NCGA Zone Championship.
The Vallejo GC squad, made up of teammates made up of teammates Eddie Pereira, Ryan Rosendall, Randy Tsutsui and Alex Kondylis, posted four eagles and three birdies to go against three bogeys and a double-bogey in the finale.
The Dragonfly GC squad made a furious charge, carding a 24-under 120 to put the heat on. Atascadero GC shot a final round 131.

In the previous 49 years, Vallejo GC has never won an NCGA Zone Championship title. The club is now just a day away from getting it done.
Vallejo GC took the lead at this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, posting a 24-under 118 in Monday’s first round at par-71 Poppy Hills Golf Course. The Vallejo GC squad, made up of teammates Eddie Pereira, Ryan Rosendall, Randy Tsutsui and Alex Kondylis, had 10 eagles and four birdies to go against just two bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Coming in at 124, six shots behind the leaders, was Atascadero GC. The Atascadero GC team, comprised of teammates Clayton Davis, Rich Enger, Jack Delore and David Payne, was flawless, posting five eagles and seven birdies with zero bogeys.
In third place at 128 is Pasatiempo GC.
The second and final round will be held Tuesday at par-72 Spyglass Hill.
