Champion Sequoia Woods CC
Sequoia Woods CC ran away with the title at the annual NCGA South Sierra Zone Championship.
Sequoia Woods CC posted a final round 19-under 121 Friday at par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch to come in at 35-under 247 and defeat runner-up Apple Mountain GC by 12 shots. The Sequoia Woods CC team, made up of Paul Watts, Arturo Herrera, Jerry Patterson and Michael Lee, had seven eagles and seven birdies to offset two bogeys and a double-bogey in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Apple Mountain GC came in at 259 following a 132. The Apple Mountain squad, made up of Gary Logan, Mark Lee, Steve Dringenberg and Heath Dringenberg, four eagles and five birdies.
Both Sequoia Woods CC and Apple Mountain earned automatic spots into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for Aug. 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
Third place went to Lake Tahoe GC at 267.

Sequoia Woods CC is the team to chase after the first round of the annual NCGA South Sierra Zone Championship.
Sequoia Woods took the lead on Thursday, posting a 16-under 126 at par-71 Quail Lodge Resort.
The Sequoia Woods squad, made up of teammates Paul Watts, Arturo Herrera, Jerry Patterson and Michael Lee, posted five eagles and eight birdies to go against just two bogeys in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
In second place at 127 is Apple Mountain GC. The Apple Mountain team, comprised of Gary Logan, Mark Lee, Steve Dringenberg and Heath Dringenberg, had eight eagles to go against a bogey and double-bogey.
Lake Tahoe GC is in third place at 129.
Friday’s final round will see play move over to par-70 Carmel Valley Ranch. The two low teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.
