Roseville amateur Josh Sedeno led the field in Thursday’s U.S. Open local qualifier at par-71 Granite Bay Golf Club, posting a 67.
Sedeno, the runner-up at the 2015 California Amateur Championship, went mistake-free, carding four birdies.
Pro Nicolas Podesta of Yuba City was second at 68, while Andy Miller, the son of World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller, was third at 69. Also coming in at 69 and advancing to Sectional Qualifying was amateur Collin Morikawa of La Canada.
The fifth automatic spot went to Granite Bay member and NCGA Amateur Tour regular Jon Peterson at 70. Peterson defeated first alternate Stuart Smith, a professional out of Reno, in a playoff. The second alternate spot went to Folsom pro Kevin Lucas.
