Former UC Davis standout Tyler Raber, who’s now a professional, earned medalist honors in Tuesday’s U.S. Open local qualifier at par-72 Yocha DeHe Golf Club by shooting a 68.
An All-Big West Conference First Team pick in 2010-2011, Raber had a front-nine 35 with one birdie. He’d pick it up on the back, posting a 33 with four birdies and just one bogey.
Finishing in second place and also advancing to Sectional Qualifying was fellow pro Corey Campbell of Rocklin, who came in at 69.
A pair of amateurs—Ryan Knop of Pleasanton and Alexander Lee of Sacramento–also moved on after shooting matching scores of 71. Knop, who currently plays at UC Davis, shot a 63 at Poppy Hills to win the 2014 Junior Tour of Northern California Tour Championship. Lee plays at Fresno State.
The fifth and final automatic spot came down to a playoff between five players at 72 with am Kyle Davies emerging the winner.
The first alternate is pro Brad Marek of San Francisco. Second alternate went to Woodland am Mark Cobey.
