Mini Tour player DJ Reeves led the field, carding a medalist-earning 4-under 67 at San Joaquin CC in Fresno. The other three players earning berths into Sectional Qualifying were professional Peter Lansburgh (69), Clovis’ Justin Avery (69) and Justin Shluker of Park City, Utah (70). Avery is a sophomore at Fresno State.
The first alternate spot went to Washington’s Matt Marrese at 70. The second alternate spot went to Texas pro Grant Doverspike (71) after a three-man playoff.
Pasatiempo GC
Former University of Pacific standout Byron Meth, now a professional who won the 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links title, led the field with a sizzling 6-under 64. Meth, who hails from San Diego, carded seven birdies to go against just one bogey.
Fellow pros Jeff Brehaut of Los Altos and Eddie Olson of Aptos both were second at 66. The final two automatic spots went to amateurs Noah Norton of Chico (67) and Carr Vernon (68), who plays at CSU- Monterey Bay.
The first alternate spot went to Cal’s Sebastian Crampton at 69.
