Champion Teal Bend
Teal Bend shot a final round 16-under 124 at par-70 Carmel Valley to finish at 28-under 254 to win what was a crazy NCGA Sacramento Zone Championship.
The Teal Bend squad, made up of teammates Charles West, Paul Coccovillo, Mark Gribskov and Elias Weiner, posted four eagles and eight birdies to go against one bogey in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
The chase for the important second place spot became a wild four-team playoff–Haggin Oaks GC, Valley Hi, Ancil Hoffman GC and Mather GC–for one spot after each of the teams finished with a two-day total of 258. After three playoff holes, Ancil Hoffman GC emerged the victor.
Both Teal Bend and Ancil Hoffman GC, who shot a final round 129, earned automatic berths into this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 29-30 at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.

Mather GC is the team to chase after day one of the annual NCGA Sacramento Zone Championship, but there’s still another round to go.
Mather GC, made up of teammates Mark Collins, Douglas Fields, Danny Gore and Leonard Rush, posted a 17-under 125 at par-71 Quail Lodge Resort in a format that takes the two best net scores per hole of a four-man team.
Just a stroke back at 126 is William Land Park. Also in the immediate mix is El Macero CC, who shot 127.
Friday’s final round will see play shift over to Carmel Valley Ranch.
The two low teams will advance to this year’s NCGA Zone Championship, slated for August 29-30 at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills.
