Carmel’s Luke Vivolo emphatically stamped his ticket to this year’s California Amateur Championship.
Vivolo, the 2014-2015 Big West Player of the Year at UC Davis, fired a course record-tying, medalist 10-under 62 in a qualifier held Monday at par-72 Sierra View CC in Rocklin.
Vivolo, who recently graduated from UC Davis, carded an eagle (hole No.1) and nine birdies to go against his lone miscue of the day, a bogey on the par-4 13th. Robert Meyer had previously held the course record by himself.
Ben Corfee, who won last year’s NCGA Four-Ball Championship with Scott Raber, and Kevin Velo finished tied for second place at 66. Finishing tied for fourth at 68 were Jeremy Sanchez and Evan Knight.
The final four automatic spots went to Ryan Gronlund, Jeremy Price and Ryan Knop (69) and Zachary Solomon (70).
Sanchez and Knop were teammates of Vivolo this season at UC Davis.
This year’s California Amateur Championship will be held June 20-25 at Valencia CC in Valencia.
